I am so excited to have a good late October crop of Broccoli, it means I finally figured out a good timing sequence for planting. Of course, there is always something more to learn, and these seem to have a nutrient deficiency, probably boron, which causes the center of the stem to become hollow. Boron deficiency is common in brassicas; remedies for the future include spraying an organic micronutrient fertilizer or adding a bit or borax to the beds.

    Is borax really organic?

Its a naturally occurring mineral, so it’s organic as long as it wasn’t created artificially and no non-organic materials were added. And only a tiny tiny bit is needed to correct boron deficiency.
